Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
So now the top six have all realised that we have a top young talent at the club. Over the past few weeks the media and pundits have intimated that City,United,Chelsea,Arsenal, and Spurs are all after Declan. If it’s not Jamie saying he should be at a bigger club it’s Ray Parlour touting him for the Arse. Now Stuart Pearce is talking “ bigger club”. Then we have the Express telling us that good old Spurs are going to be generous and give us 35mill for him. A potentially top top player with 15 years of career left for 35 million. Fuck off Spurs and all the other “big clubs”,press and pundits who think that a simple click of their fingers and he will come running. Well tough shit we’ve got him and if you want him it’s top top money.
Arrogant bastards.

To read this thread, you'd think that West Ham are the only club with 'under-achieving big earners'.

Re: Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
I sense a rare thing with Declan and that is loyalty. He plays every game with a smile and determination. He has no pretensions and happily mixes with the claret and blue army. He plays with brains and if he continues he know he can become a West ham legend and still shine for England. Fuck the arrogance of the big clubs. We are blessed we have a star in the making who carries no arrogance. Playing week in week out is what he wants. Future West Ham Captain of many years is my prediction.

Big Clubs ? The only one on that list I don't expect us to compete with is City. Looked at the 3 players they brought on against Chelsea and feel they could walk into any other club in the league and make the starting 11

In a couple more Windows I expect us to be competing with the other 5 (If we have backing and a bit more luck with injuries)

*If they do, and our better players leave anyway, FAIR DOS, but if we lose the likes of Rice due to tight fisted stagnation, there will be riots.

They simply have to do the absolute maximum, so that even the most cynical fans have to say, "Fair enough, you couldn't do more than that."

If they do, and our better players leave anyway, but if we lose the likes of Rice due to tight fisted stagnation, there will be riots.

"They simply have to get as much as possible for the players that can't cut it, and then spend every last penny possible without breaking FFP rules."

Our income is 9th highest in the league, so we should see spending at that level I would imagine

So spurs offer 35 million, they rate their best players at 240 million, we'll get mugged off.

lily, until the board allow the manager to ship out the underachieving big earners, it will be difficult for any manager. I'm not sure how true it was that moves wanted a big clear out if he'd stayed on but that's pellegrini's most important job. he has to move on about six to eight and freshen it up, or we'll be in the exact same position next february

Lily Hammer 4:21 Mon Feb 11
Re: Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
And if they do all that for a few summers, and we're still underachieving, and Rice leaves, so be it.

That's what we will see in summer windows to come.

Getting Pellegrini in deserves credit where it's due, as does the backing of him last summer.

The owners' next big test will be this coming summer. They simply have to get as much as possible for the players that can't cut it, and then spend every last penny possible without breaking FFP rules. We can't ask for more than that, but it's also the minimum the manager and us fans should demand.

Re: Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
no obviously keep him as long as we can. but be realistic in that he ain't gonna be here for a testimonial

people talk about wether Spurs can keep Kane etc happy, and they are a million billion miles ahead of where we are

Takashi Miike 4:14 Mon Feb 11
Re: Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
it doesn't matter what we promote, if the owners don't share the same ambition

Lily Hammer 4:08 Mon Feb 11
Re: Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
OK then. Might as well sell him now, then, so we can buy a few inferior players that won't mind not competing.

Is that the right mindset we should promote?

he's not talking about playing in Europe, he specifically says he wants to WIN league trophies and the Champions League

that ain't happening here

Re: Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
Deadwood needs clearing out, and we need more signings that Pellegrini wants, and he has to keep instilling his mentality into the players and the fans and the owners.

We are a big club, the biggest underachiever in England, possibly the world. We need to start believing that on every level. Pellegrini is trying to realign the club's whole mentality. It won't happen without full backing from the board and the fans.

No, this doesn't mean I think we will win the league any time soon, but it does mean we are not far off getting into the european places, especially with a couple of the bigger teams faltering.

All this is to say, we don't neccessarily have to resign ourselves to losing Rice, as if it's inevitable.

Re: Declan Rice- The arrogance of the “big clubs”
theres zero difference between this and the way we talk about signing players like Arnie from Stoke or other prem league teams around us.
